Volunteer’s Action Saves Zoo Railway Tracks from Falling Tree

At Friends of the Washington Park and Zoo Railway, we believe in the power of community and the impact of individual actions. This was wonderfully exemplified by one of our dedicated volunteers, Gerald Fox, who recently averted a potential disaster.

Saved the Tracks!

Gerald was visiting the Rose Garden Station in late March and noticed that a large Doug Fir was tilted and likely to fall over, taking out some of the tracks and possibly damaging the Washington Park Station. We alerted Portland Parks and Rec and in less than two weeks, the City of Portland’s Urban Forestry Team took care of the problem tree. Big kudos to Gerald for keeping and eye out!
